Crisis Intervention

The goal of this line of service is to help emotionally / behaviorally troubled youth remain at home in the community and avoid psychiatric hospitalization or other out-of-home placement.  TCFS provides a 90-day intensive home-based crisis intervention, counseling and support through its Screening, Assessment, and Support Services (SASS).

SASS provides short-term counseling and help in coordinating services the family may be receiving from other community agencies.  SASS services are for children whose ability to function in the home, school and/or community is severely impaired.  If the child is suicidal or has intent to harm himself/herself or someone else, and immediate referral can be made for a SASS intervention.

WRAP Process

WRAP is a process in which the following steps typically occur:

  1. a family identifies the key people in a child's life and agrees to invite them to be a part of a Child & Family Team

  2. meetings are scheduled to include as many team members as possible and the meetings are held in the most comfortable place for the family

  3. meetings are brainstorming sessions in which 9 areas (life domains) of a child's life are discussed to list a child's strengths and needs

  4. the team looks at how these strengths and needs relate to the average child of the same age

  5. the team brainstorms ways to use the child's strengths to meet his/her needs

  6. between meetings, team members take responsibility for gathering information about programs or services the child could possibly join; the team may also consider services that are needed that do not yet exist in the area

  7. one the team has chosen a plan of action, the has the chance to present a plan to the Local Area Network (LAN) for funding for some parts of the plan

  8. the later meets to review and update the plan as needed.

WRAP meetings occur weekly or biweekly until the WRAP plan is made; then the team might meet monthly or less.  The scheduling varies with each team.
